Contra Krugman Ep. 170 — Tom Uses Jedi Mind Trick on Dennis Miller
OK that is just a small part of the episode, but you don’t want to miss it. We are talking about whether conservatives are hypocrites for urging the Fed to stop hiking rates now that Trump is the president.
I never heard the part about Krugman and Asimov before. Quite interesting as I loved the Foundation series as a teenager as well, but it never occurred to me to model my career after a mythical Sci-Fi economist who was able to predict the future. It struck me as fantastical – and if you’re going to believe in those sorts of things, wouldn’t you rather be Captain Kirk or someone much cooler?
In any case, nobody who looked up to Sci-Fi characters as inspirational has any right to stand in judgment of Ayn Rand novels as being too unrealistic…
