Jon Stewart Rips the Media Attacks on Marco Rubio

Even if he does this just to maintain the appearance of balance, that’s still admirable. And it’s funny enough that I think he’s serious.

Attempting the appearence of balance would put him a cut above Fox News.

    Just hilarious!

While it’s better than nothing, he’s framing this in the “what a bunch of jokers” style critique. Like the issue is that the NYT is incompetent, rather than that they are intentionally doing this because they are hyper-partisan and are doing everything within their power to get Hillary elected.

Presumably Stewart can’t bring that up because he agrees with those ends.

“they are hyper-partisan and are doing everything within their power to get Hillary elected.”

Isn’t that so obvious that it isn’t really worth mentioning it?

Not to the people who sit in his audience and watch him on a regular basis.

You just can’t help people who don’t get that there is an agenda behind this anyway.. Just my opinion.

Well, I agree that the mainstream media does have a liberal bias, although I don’t think it’s as pronounced as those on the Right think it is. (Perhaps where you stand depends on where you sit, as they say.) In any case, if the New York Times were really hyperpartisan, why wouldn’t they have run a hit piece on the book “Clinton Cash”, rather than partnering with the author as they actually did?

I don’t think they’re trying to do everything in their power to get Hillary elected, although that’s certainly their preferred outcome. But I do agree that they were looking into Rubio’s background in an effort to find something scandalous, because he’s rumored to have had underhanded financial dealings. But they were unsuccesfful, and they made a poor decision to publish what they did have, which was pretty weak tea.

I used to think Stewart was both funny and more objective than most. His objectivity is pretty much gone, now. I can’t help but think it was part of his strategy to move into a “real news” spot.

Bob, I don’t think Jon Stewart is doing this to maintain an appearance of balance, because there is no such appearance. Stewart is very clear that he gives his opinion, which is admittedly liberal. In the case of Rubio, he was just calling it as he sees it, not trying to pretend that he sees an equivalency between both sides.
