Bob Murphy Explains “Rio 2” to Stefan Molyneux

Movie Reviews 10 Comments

Please forgive the third-person title but I thought it was too funny to omit. Anyway, here’s Stefan’s review, which right now has 54,000 views. Since I think Stefan is unbelievably, inconceivably wrong-headed in it, I naturally respond.

Hollywood really does engage in anti-traditional-values propaganda. Stefan isn’t imagining this (Haven’t watched his critique)… [Links removed by RPM because they would definitely take these comments in a direction away from the Molyneux/Murphy battle over Rio 2.]

Yeah, kicking the guys in the nuts is funny, whatever woman wants is good for the family, it’s all just for the entertainment and emotional connection of the viewer, the odd one can always become a hero, wait what?

Of course it aims at being funny and to connect emotionally. If it didn’t it would be too obvious and ineffective. But don’t tell me You don’t see any political ends met with mainstream movies, don’t make me lose respect for your intellect. Implanting ideas, creating opinions IS done through thit channel.
ps: I didn’t see it and I’m not going to – sounds like a torture. I’m not kidding, lets laugh at some abused women in a cartoon for kids and see how it goes – unthinkable ha?

And yet you seem immune to their sinister messages! Guess the voodoo didn’t work on you – probably because you’re too smart, eh?

Even if these Hollywood guys earnestly tried to make a movie which reflected YOUR point-of-view they wouldn’t get it right.

If they tried to make a movie which had NO political end it would probably inadvertently reflect some bias of theirs which you don’t like.

Um, two things: one, I’m not sure it’s worth your time responding to the Molynieux review, if that’s what it is. I mean, at some point I think it’s legitimate to say, “that’s just nuts,” and leave it at that, and the Molynieux review seems comfortably in that range. Be that as it may, the response is pretty funny. [Rest of comment removed because it referred to another comment that has been removed. –RPM]

Bob, Rio isn’t a Disney movie. It’s made my 20th Century Fox’s animation department, the people who made the Ice Age movies.

Shoot! I actually tried to figure out before I made the video what company made it. I came across this official Disney site talking about Rio 2 upcoming, but in retrospect I can see that isn’t as decisive as I had thought.

I’ll do what I can to minimize the problem, but I’m not going to re-shoot the thing.

    “Stefan is mistaken.”

    Tautology, Bob.

  6. Mom says:

Bob, that was really funny; particularly the beginning. I listened to Stefan’s critique, and I thought, yikes, I’m not taking my children to see it. I think he may be a tad sensitive on a few issues.

After hearing your review, I may reconsider.

    • Bob Murphy says:

No, it’s not a good movie! It’s just not as demonic (in a rationalist way) as Stefan claims.
