Near-Miss On Stossel

Economics, Rothbard 13 Comments

Well here was the guy (David Barker) I was talking to in the green room at my taping with John Stossel. So far as I can tell, my clip is not available. It’s the man keeping me down!

Anyway as this guy and I talked, we slowly realized that we were each as crazy as the other. By the end of the conversation we were talking about Rothbard, David Friedman, and the Tannehills, and I promised to send him the link to Chaos Theory. Here is his book on an anarchist US, coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

The only place I could find the whole program is here:

Murphy starts around the 17 minute mark.

    Thanks for the link, Dave.

Fine interview, Doc! Very nice, compact, convincing explanation of why insider trading should be legal, and why, probably, it was made illegal.

Great to hear that you met a kindred spirit in David Barker. That is always fun and heartening.

The central planners hate barter trade!

    Doc,

I bought Barker’s book in hardcopy after reading a bit online. Very interesting premise for a sci-fi book.

I rarely comment but I follow you, woods, and all the other Libbies/AE’ers. Took your class (first one for the Academy). Love your work.

    Keep up the fight.

  5. Bharat says:

The funniest part is right after your interview, when Stossel goes around interviewing people about competing currencies.

“Should people be allowed to print their own currency?”
“No. That’s not in the Constitution.”

    Great job though, Dr. Murphy!

I was walking past the Illuminati Minister of Propaganda’s office yesterday evening, and I overheard him talking about your interview with Stossel. He was like ‘We have to stop this guy Bob Murphy. He’s getting too big for his britches. We allow this thing to air and pretty soon he’ll be getting Krugman to debate. Destroy the tapes now!’

    • Bob Murphy says:

Zee, please give us evidence that is scientific. I tried to reproduce what you report here, and heard nothing.

Wait, which is coming to a neighborhood near me? Anarchism, or the book?

The leftist ruling class is attempting to duct tape Steve Landsburg:

Is there any way to push back?

    • Bob Murphy says:

Eh Greg I don’t think the UR president should have said anything, but it really shouldn’t be surprising. Landsburg was calling Rush’s critics “humorless” etc., after Rush had called a young woman a slut and prostitute for her testimony.

I have to say, after learning of it here and immediately downloading it (three bucks on Kindle? how can I not?), I’m really enjoying Barker’s book.

Barker’s come up with a great many innovations over, for instance, the Tannehills’ ideas. And Barker’s just one guy, writing a book. The matrix of millions looking for innovations to increase profits and respond to demand would surely come up with other ideas.

I wanted to buy his book but it wasn’t possible to do it with using MamMoTh dollars with my trumps (one per side) printed on it!
