Robert Wenzel Receives Death Threats Over Health Reform
With him shooting his mouth off so much, it was only a matter of time. In an open letter to Louise Slaughter (my congresswoman when I was growing up), Wenzel relays his terrifying tale.
(BTW, I am not going to bother getting up on a soapbox, but for the record: Making death threats to politicians is not only immoral but dumb. The people in DC are thanking whoever it is they worship that they can play those answering machine messages for the media and garner sympathy. It’s like the rulers of Iran giving high-fives to each other whenever some US official denounces them.)
Excellent post. I wouldn’t say that it’s always appropriate to point out to statists that their policies ALWAYS depend upon SWAT teams. But once they start in with the insults, it probably becomes appropriate and essential. I find that pointing this out ALWAYS throws “progressives” off their game because they think of themselves as so smart and civilized and they think of us as violent racist rubes.
We should always be looking to induce our Perry Mason moment.
I would agree, that the death threats are foolish, but I am curious: how would you characterize Patrick Henry’s speech of 235 years ago, or Paine’s “Common Sense” or even the Declaration of independence? While not overt or direct threats of death, the implication was clear. While Henry’s speech was somewhat passive in that he calls for his death over enslavement and doesn’t directly call for the death of others it still had the underlying meaning of resistance. I know you are anti-war/violence and that strong arm over strong arm does not necessarily really resolve anything and often results in one despot being replaced by another, but would you ever see clear to physically resist?
Thanks for your response and this site.
