Johnny Cash “When the Man Comes Around”

Religious 7 Comments

An interesting take on the book of Revelation (last book in the Bible). What’s funny is most people think “apocalypse = awful” but in the Biblical sense, it eventually ushers in eternal paradise. But it’s definitely hardcore, don’t get me wrong.

Awful as in for those who don’t take Jesus Christ into their hearts. Such people are going to spend an eternity in the Lake of Fire and Brimstone. After all, the Anti-Christ is defined as anyone is simply against Christ.

As much as I hate condescending high horse talk from atheists, I am just as much hating it from theists too..

And? What’s the point? A sociopath is defined as anyone simply against humans. And no, I’m not religious, I’m just not impressed with these ejaculations of outrage that not everyone likes you and the rest of the great human creaturedom.

      Gil,
You spout ancient myths and stories as if they were real. Next thing you know, Zeus will be pelting us with thunder bolts or pandora turn us to stone.

If you’re interested in Cash’s theology, he wrote a book about Paul that you might look into. I’ve not read it myself, but I’ve heard good things about it, and the Amazon reviews are strong: http://www.amazon.com/Man-White-Johnny-Cash/dp/159554836X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430167933&sr=8-1&keywords=the+man+in+white

One of my most favourite Cash songs. I’ve toyed with the idea of having my church choir perform it, but I’ve never had a bass who could quite pull it off. And there’s the fact that we mainstream Methodists don’t have a lot of Revelation on our liturgical calendar.

Johnny Cash is the man! Definitely up there with Woody Guthrie and Dylan.
