St. Patty’s Day Slug Fest: Murphy vs. O’Reilly

Economics, Shameless Self-Promotion 5 Comments

I forgot to blog this when it came out… At the Institute for Energy Research I wrote a blog post pointing out the nonsense behind Bill O’Reilly’s recent tirades against oil exports. Sample:

Bill O’Reilly’s talking points against oil companies completely misconstrue the actual trade flows of crude oil and refined products. Yet even if O’Reilly did state the facts, his proposal for raising taxes on a profitable sector of the U.S. economy would destroy jobs and do little to lower gasoline prices. In fact, his rhetoric sounds a lot like President Obama’s calls for increased taxes on oil companies as the way to reduce gasoline prices. No one should believe either of them.

Wow, one of the commentators thee wants you to be tried for treason and then executed. Not tried, found guilty and then executed, no he’ll skip that inconvenient middle bit and up against the wall you go.

So what’s your last meal? Last cigarette or no? Blindfold?

O’Reilly constantly insists that he is not an “ideologue” and that his hero is Bobby Kennedy. Take him at his word. Keneezian economics?

On Sunday, 60 Minutes broadcast the former Mossad chief claiming that the Iranians were rational and that attacking Iran would be “the stupidest thing I have ever heard.” Fox News O’Reilly hack Dick Morris called this talk “almost treasonous”. Fox News is constantly beating the drums for an attack on Iran.

Last fall, O’Reilly compared Ron Paul to Joe Paterno and alleged toleration for pedophiles.

This type of “reporting” runs 24/7 at Fox News.
