That final message cracked me up.

  2. Cosmo Kramer says:

RPM’s been taking lessons? Sounds pretty good.

  3. Philippe says:

    no countries

    no religion
    world peace
    no possessions

    no greed
    no hunger

    a brotherhood of man
all the people sharing all the world
all the world living as one

Why are you singing anarcho-communist songs Bob?

    • Bob Murphy says:

And here I thought my disclaimer at the end would shield me from such scathing observations…

      • Philippe says:

I didn’t say he wasn’t libertarian. But the song is extreme left-wing libertarian rather than your brand of extreme right-wing libertarian.

Next up, “Bob Murphy sings Che’s Greatest Hits”

          Philippe,

One can enjoy art by taking what one wants out of it, without accepting the underlying political message.

          Quit politicizing everything.

          • Philippe says:

Bob politicized it by juxtaposing the song with images of extreme right-wing libertarians. I pointed out that the song is extreme left-wing libertarian.

            • Major_Freedom says:

I guess any time anyone shows up for anything, it’s politicized to you, because you can always say “He’s a liberal anarcho republican socialist progressive!”

Dude, Bob has creative license because it’s art.

          • Ken B says:

Yup. I think the best song ever written is Amazing Grace. Go figure.

        • Bob Murphy says:

Philippe I’m barely checking the screen. I am quite familiar with the lyrics. You don’t think my ending quote meant, “I get that Lennon is talking about no property, that’s not something with which I agree”?

On Sunday are you going to bring this up again, when I talk about my belief that there’s a heaven and hell?

I guess I don’t know what to say, Philippe. I can’t tell if you’re just being “funny” or if you really think I need to “explain” this. There aren’t that many famous songs in my range.

          • Ken B says:

            Well, there’s mac the knife.

Whoops! Oh my God! Another commie song !!!

            Old Man River?

  4. Richard O. Hammer says:

    Good singing, Bob.

I notice that you seem to be jesting on some points in the exchange. So I’d like to share that I have sometimes experimented with trying to remove jesting from my speech — because jesting seems to be commonly misunderstood, i.e. taken literally, by people who are not exactly on the same wavelength with the speaker.

But then again, jesting is such a common human trait, it must serve some useful purpose.
