But I Thought We Weren’t Supposed to Hold Grudges…?
I am not saying it’s exactly the same thing, but you know how Radley Balko was tut-tutting the people who made snarky jokes about snowflakes instead of working to stop current abuses of power?
Well, he couldn’t object to Trump’s Supreme Court nomination as a jackbooted thug, so after saying he was the best we could hope for under Trump, Balko wrote this:
And notice the comments too.
Again, it’s not literally the same sin of which Balko was accusing others, but it’s a kissing cousin. Instead of saying, “Wow, I’m very pleasantly surprised, I applaud this choice and let’s hope this man will work to limit the violation of civil liberties,” instead Balko uses it as an opportunity to criticize Trump’s past behavior (and I suspect, to remind everybody that “Hey guys, I can’t stand Trump’s guts.”).
Looks like Trump Derangement Syndrome to me.
It is only a matter of time before their heads explode from cognitive dissonance. Trump’s nominees, while not necessarily friends of the left, have not been Trump clones. The left simply cannot deal with a playbook that they have not written.
I don’t see anything wrong with that tweet at all and I sincerely do not understand what your objection is
There’s nothing wrong with the tweet by itself. But click the link to refresh your memory about his running objections to libertarians who are spending time pointing out liberal Democratic hypocrisy, rather than doing what they can to limit Trump.
So I’m saying, in that context, I’m taking his complaints less seriously now. There is no purpose to this current tweet except to vent. If you want to put aside the personal satisfaction you get from mocking people you hate, and do what will advance liberty, then it seems weird when Trump makes a good Supreme Court pick to take the opportunity to say how bad Trump is.
I took @mattgroff’s comment as mocking Balko — hilariously
Gorusch was nominated by George W Bush. I am a bit skeptical of the erudition of Mr Gorusch when interpreting the Constitution. Trump may simply be executing a Republican agenda. I am starting to realize all of his wangling during the campaign process, despite being and sounding different than Clinton, were Republican talking-points plucked to satisfy his uniquely fringe and unrelenting decorum. Sure he was something new, and less Socialist than Clinton perhaps, but Socialist nonetheless.
I understand some compare Gorusch’s method of interpretation to that of Scalia, but at least Scalia had some association to Milton Friedman. Sure Friedman was a statist economist, but at least his philosophical perspective from a Libertarian angle allowed for a more organic interpreter of the Constitution to arise. The Supreme Court satisfies the three branch process left ideologically by Montesquieu. I believe we are beyond this method of judicial monopolization, and as you mentioned before, we can have judges now “render an opinion” in the private sector.
