Potpourri
==> Dan Sanchez has a great post on ISIS and its debt to Washington, DC.
==> David R. Henderson on two recent cases of government working badly.
==> Bryan Caplan talks about Frances Wooley’s good critique of how economists teach public goods.
==> Also, on my last post I linked to my Mises CA post on Yglesias and Iceland. I forgot to link to this good reaction by Scott Sumner, who also provided the link to the Sadowsky takedown.
The very excitable ex-Reaganaut Paul Craig Roberts was onto the Neocons and Syria back in 2012:

I have had the fortune/misfortune to have joined two years ago a Facebook group consisting of an ex-cousin-in-law and his large army of Michigan Republicans, including County Bosses for Cruz etc…..
They argue like Keynesians. No fact can penetrate the existing meme that Obama is a Kumbaya weenie who is just too darned liberal to understand the evil nature of Islamic terror. The former head of Mossad saying that Iran has no nuclear program is not a “respected source”. Those old old chemical weapons that the US gave Saddam is proof that Saddam had a WMD program in 2003. There is no such thing as blowback. In fact, there is no such thing a Neocon. Israel should have killed more Palestinian children than they did last summer.
Obama did not overthrow the elected government of Ukraine and install Nazis and the US should arm them (so says Ted Cruz). Obama is a weenie on Ukraine and because he’s a Kumbaya liberal, he won’t stand up to Putin and his aggression.
Fun fun fun.
These are my peeps.
May I suggest this approach:
Obama *is* a Kumbaya weenie who is just too damned liberal to understand the evil nature of Islamic terror (they attack civilians on purpose, and Obama often refuses to mention the Islamic religion of Arab terrorists), but it turns out that all of our wars have been Progressive wars:

(The last one is incomplete because Tom was too tired to finish at that time, but it’s still a very good lecture.)
I’ve tried everything. For years. There really are no Neocons because, in order to be a Neocon, you had to have actually been a practicing Trotskyite in the past and there are only 4 of those people still alive today.
When I linked to “The Times of Israel” reporting on former Mossad chief Meir Dagan giving a speech before tens of thousands claiming Bibi was “taking intolerable risks with Israeli security” the response was:
“It is always very suspicious when these people come out of the woodwork shortly before the election. Who’s payroll is this fellow on?” These people?
There was a similar response to Poppy Bush’s CIA daily briefer Ray McGovern quoting Israeli Defense Minister Barak in 2012 to the effect that Iran has no nuclear weapons program.

The beliefs come first. The facts come later. It’s like MMT. The loans come first, the reserves come later.
As I constantly maintain, this is the statist template for the response to every piece of libertarian and Austrian analysis.
On the Iranians building nukes issue.
I actually think it’s possible that, even if Iran wasn’t making nukes, that they could be helping others do so.
That doesn’t mean that we should stick our noses in other countries’ politics.
It means that the government should leave us alone to drive tanks and build defensive homes that violate “building codes”.
