Can You Outsmart Steve Landsburg?

Steve’s got a new book! I haven’t read the finished product, but I saw an early draft of the manuscript and this looks fun. If you like his blog you will love this book.

  1. Eyal Benari says:

Murphy, what have you done to me? I spent 2 hours reading about ten 2015 pirates dividing 100 coins 95,0,1,0,1,0,1,0,1,0 or any way that makes it so that each pirate is unable to get more coins just by changing his strategy.
And all I learned is that:
    1. People can be passionate about anything.
    2. Mathematical induction is much like some libertarians’ position on the state: a necessary evil.
    3. Never assume everybody knows everybody else’s plan if they affect each other.
    4. Pirates are actually emotionless robots, maximizing utility functions.
    5. I need to go to sleep.
    Thank you.

P.S. I am now a firm believer in human sacrifice as a method of property protection, morality be damned.
