Contra Krugman, Shameless Self-Promotion 19 Comments

==> I think we catch Krugman in a pretty big Kontradiction this episode, where Krugman warns of the trade war Trump will unleash–a worry Krugman mysteriously lacked back in 2010 when he called for 25% tariffs on China for its currency manipulation. Also, don’t miss the special treat at the end.

==> Speaking of wars, this article in Politico openly calls for a renewed Cold War with Russia. Hmmm.

==> My son and I watched this AWESOME documentary analyzing a hypothetical Ali vs. Tyson fight. This is really great if you are interested in the premise.

Politico calling for war, the left defending CIA fake intelligence, what is this, mirror 2003?

  2. Andrew_FL says:

But we don’t have to worry about that because Trump and Putin are good friends, so I don’t see what’s hm worthy.

This article in Politico is a masterpiece in generalizing, fear mongering, factless but fictionful polarizing propaganda hit piece.. Why not drone Putin right now..

Do we need any more evidence that the left, including the Keynesians, have never engaged nor familiarized themselves with even basic Austrian concepts and that “The General Theory” was in a similar vein as “deregulation caused the 2008 crash” and “the Russians stole the election for Trump”?

    • John Arthur says:

      Hi Bob,

It might be true that some Keynesians have not familiarised themselves “with even basic Austrian concepts”, but the author who uses the pseudonym “Lord Keynes” has multitudes of articles on Austrian economics and examines it critically.

I guess one reason why most NK’s, like Krugman, have not paid too much attention to Austrian theory is that they consider it too far outside the mainstream and not worthy of detailed examination.

Unless Austrians are to devote more of their resources to enough empirical work of high quality and are able to get their articles published in leading mainstream journals, Austrian economics will continue to be ignored and/or marginalised by the mainstream.

      Regards,

      John Arthur .

Is that because the mainstream continually tests, with empirical evidence, their theory that only empirical work is legitimate?

The truth is that they have an a priori theory they’re working with, that they don’t continually test. Just like we do.

Our theories stand or fall on their *logical* consistencies. Empirical evidence merely exemplifies laws, but can never prove them.

If everyone thought that way, then intellectual progress would come to an end, since nobody would consider anything outside whatever constitutes the mainstream at the time.

Good thing there are people who reject that bad habit.

It is better to be right than published in shoddy journals.

There’s a difference between familiarizing yourself with an idea and considering its merits and going on a snipe hunt to try to make it out to be wrong by prevarication, context dropping, and leading commentary.

“Unless Austrians are to devote more of their resources to enough empirical work of high quality”

A strange thing to ask. Similar to asking someone who performs quantum physics to devote their resources to methods that only work for the classical – and erroneous – physics.

A couple of pacifists watching a documentary on boxing? I am entertained.

Wow… Obama really did obliterate the anti-war left. Yikes.

Who sang the special treat at the end of Contra Krugman? Was it ours truly? 🙂
