Murphy Tackles the White House 2014 Budget Proposal

Economics, Oil, Shameless Self-Promotion 3 Comments

I like to beat up on Paul Ryan etc. for being faux-tough on the fiscal problem, but man oh man, in this IER post I go through the Obama Administration’s 2014 Budget Proposal. They don’t even pretend to improve things.

I ended up writing this post pretty late at night, and was feeling saucy. I actually said, “George Orwell would be proud to read that $600 billion in new revenue was raised through the ‘American Taxpayer Relief Act.’ We would hate to see the amount of revenue extracted from an ‘American Taxpayer Grief Act.'”

Thanks, I’ll be here all week folks. Remember to tip your waitresses.

I’m happy you’re getting lots of IER playtime. It really can be a full time job de-fudding politico-economic propaganda.

The activity justified by the Patriot Act would make the Act more accurately named as The Traitor Act, but that would have painted its detractors as Patriots, the opposite of what is intended.

You mean you’re against the Taxpayer Relief Act? You don’t want taxpayers to get a relief? With this much unemployment?

Methinks it more instructive not to see this as Orwellian but rather take it literally.

Taxpayers ought be relieved it’s only $600 billion.

Breathe a sigh of relief, folks. Whew!

I think the patriot act is actually perfectly named. It was designed to go after and persecute Patriots.
