“Don’t Count Out Jon Huntsman”

All Posts 17 Comments

I heard him rallying the troops on an NPR clip. I kid you not, Huntsman actually said with passion, “The people of New Hampshire don’t like to be told for whom they should vote!”

I don’t know whether to laugh or salute. People want a politician who says what he thinks is right, not what he thinks the crowd wants to hear. I don’t know much about his positions, but corrupt backroom deals are not things up with which President Huntsman would put.

Just go ahead and end a sentence with a preposition. Whose benefit is that for?

  2. inDglass says:

He couldn’t even get on the ballot in 3 states. Regardless of what happens in New Hampshire, he’s out!

Really we have a grammer nazi coming in here. Bob’s english is fine, his typing is clearly off. ” but corrupt backroom deals are not things up with which President Huntsman would put.” I assume Bob means ” but corrupt backroom deals are not things which President Huntsman would put up with.”

I think he was channeling his inner Yoda

    • RG says:

You assume wrong – it’s an ironic backhannded compliment. His grammer was correct, it just sounds strange in our dumbed down version of English.

My healthy gums are a dead giveaway to my chosen candidate….

He’s channeling Churchill … or not:

    Bob,

I don’t comment much but I visit your site daily. I have much admiration and respect for your work. But I must say there good buddy this post has taken me back just a little. Let’s see, very rich (not that there is anything wrong with that), was appointed by Pres Obama to a Diplomatic Post (China), former Republican Governor, and a member of the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations). Hmmmmm.

To attribute a virtue of honesty to this man based on a impassioned speech (“I don’t know much about his positions, but corrupt backroom deals are not things up with which President Huntsman would put.”) might just be a bit of a stretch.

thanks for all you do Bob, this isn’t a slam btw, just a reality check as I see it…I truly mean no offense.

Mike this post is a total joke. Obviousy I hope Ron Paul wins. I thought that went without saying.

Never underestimate the skill which sarcasm over the Internet can be detected with.

      • Dan says:

Whatever Huntsman lover. Get on Fox News a few times and suddenly you’re pumping up the elite. Sellout! What’s next, you give up pacifism and throw support behind John Bolton?

      • Mike says:

Oops!!!! Feeling rather silly……I sit corrected

  6. Edwin Herdman says:

I agree with Bob on both of these issues (the Huntsman campaign and the creative use of sentences).

I can say right now that I won’t vote for Huntsman, and I don’t think he goes far enough in rallying back the Republican Party to sensibility, but he’s made important contributions in some areas (i.e., not being the party of anti-science, for one).

And why not laugh and salute one after the other? There’s more than two schools of thought about ending a sentence with a preposition, after all 🙂

  7. Yancey Ward says:

    Who is Jon Huntsman?

    Just kidding.

  8. Gene Callahan says:

“I don’t know much about his positions, but corrupt backroom deals are not things up with which President Huntsman would put.”

By the way, even if one follows the “don’t end a sentence with a preposition” rule, Churchill was wrong to move the word “up” from the end of the sentence: the word “up” in “put up” in not functioning as a preposition.
