The Testimony of Johnny Cash
I'm not making an appeal to authority (or to hipness), but I do find it interesting that Johnny Cash sang what would be a goofy Christian hymn if performed by an old lady with a pipe organ. But hey, it's Johnny Cash, so it's cool. He's hardcore.

I`ve always been a big fan of Johnny Cash. Thanks for this, Bob.
Did you know that Shel Silverstein, author of "The Giving Tree", also wrote the lyrics to Cash`s "Boy Named Sue"?

From my long-term jousting with liberal southerners about the merits of so-called "alt-country" (country music for liberals IMHO), it appears that Johnny Cash is considered by them to have been a hip liberal. Therefore, his Christianity is charming. It's all a matter of politics and political labeling.
